SPRING TIME FUN FACTS

Fun Facts About Spring

1. The word “spring” has been used for this season since the 16th century.

2. The first spring flowers are usually daffodils, dandelions, lilies, tulips, iris and lilacs.

3. "Spring fever" is apparently a real thing! Experts say the body’s makeup changes due to different diets, hormone production and temperature.

4. There’s more daylight during spring because the earth’s axis tilts toward the sun at this time of the year.

5. On the first day of spring, the sunrise and sunset are about 12 hours apart everywhere on earth.

6. If you stand at the equator on the first day of spring, you’ll see the sun pass directly over-head. This happens only twice a year – the first day of spring and the first day of autumn.

MOUNT EVEREST

Mount Everest is the tallest mountain in the world, ON LAND!

There is a mountain that is much taller, but it starts its climb from under the water. It is called Mount MAUNA KEA, located in Hawaii. Mauna Kea is actually a dormant volcano. It stands 4 207 meters above water, and measures 10 203 meters from land, to it's base on the ocean floor. This makes it 1 355 meters TALLER than Mount Everest! It last erupted 4,000 to 6,000 years ago.
